In July 2007, Rob Kaimowitz and Nick Kraus, both partners at The Stephen Talkhouse, had a crazy idea; to throw a charity event that’s also a concert that’s also a party…sought of like Woodstock but affordable for everyone.. Oh, the food should be great, there should open bar and great music….and it should take place outdoors in a beautiful place….
Nick offered up his family’s beautiful horse farm East Hampton to host the event.
Rob offered up his band, the Giving Tree, who had been playing to sold out shows in the Hamptons and NYC.
They both worked together to plan and promote the event…
“Rock the Farm” was born.
The event’s proceeds were split between The Giving Tree Foundation and Row New York, the charity founded by Nick’s sister Amanda.
The event was so successful that Luly Duke and the Folks at Fundacion Amistad (former Boys and Girls Harbor Fireworks event) wanted to team up… we renamed that event “Rock the Harbor.”
“Rock the Hamptons ‘08” was born, consisting of two events…
- Rock the Harbor, July 12th - On the Duke Estate in East Hampton featuring Grucci Fireworks, The Giving Tree Band, great food and open bar.
- Rock the Farm, August 16th, at John’s Lane Farm in East Hampton, Featuring music by The Blue Jackets, The Giving Tree Band and surprise guests, great food and open bar.

All net proceeds from “Rock the Hamptons” will be split evenly by The Giving Tree Foundation, Row New York and Fundacion Amistad.
How The Giving Tree helps tax-exempt charities:
Giving Tree NYC is a New York non-profit corporation that runs the musical band, The Giving Tree. The Giving Tree Foundation is a charitable expression of Giving Tree NYC.
The band, The Giving Tree, donates all of its net earnings to charity. By "net earnings" we mean what we get paid to play gigs, what people donate directly to The Giving Tree Foundation, and what we earn selling TGT t-shirts, hats, and CDs, less only "reasonable and necessary" expenses.
There are three ways we determine to whom to give some or all of our net earnings:
• Through The Giving Tree Foundation, we distribute net earnings to bona fide charities chosen by members of the band. These charities currently include The ALS Association (Lou Gehrig's Disease), The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, The Morris Animal Foundation (Meisha's Hope Fund), The Coalition for the Homeless, and The Wounded Warrior Project.
• The Giving Tree Foundation has also partnered with the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York to support the Wounded Warrior Project. So, whenever The Giving Tree plays the Talkhouse, all our net earnings for that performance benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
• On occasion, The Giving Tree will perform to benefit specific tax-exempt charities and The Giving Tree Foundation. A recent example of this is "Rock the Farm ’07" in which The Giving Tree played a benefit for Row New York and The Giving Tree Foundation.
Incorporated in January 2007, Giving Tree NYC's application for IRC Sect. 501(c)(3) tax exempt status was filed with the IRS on March 12, 2008, and is currently pending.
Perhaps most importantly, The Giving Tree family is all of us there when the band plays -- wives, partners, girlfriends, kids, dogs, brothers, sisters, drum techs, roadies, photographers, cousins, club-owners, sound-guys, studio-owners, promoters, producers, friends, and everyone willing to dance in the garden in torn sheets in the rain...
